Social Media & Brain (Mental) Health
Social media can be a powerful vehicle to build community, to learn new things, to meet new people around the world, and to showcase your talent and creativity.
Social can ALSO be a not-so-healthy, happy place. We've all found ourselves hovering our thumb over the 'Delete Account' button at least once or twice - yeah?
These platforms impact our brain (mental) health whether we choose to recognize it or not.
We're poked and prodded with information overload at any given time of the day, which quite frankly, just isn't normal for us as humans who are attempting to just: be.
If we are mindful of our usage and take regular breaks to protect our well-being, we can all show up here to make a positive impact through thoughtful content consumption - for all!
Who else is here for it? 👏
We believe that social can be a source of inspiration, support, and connection. Communities make individuals feel like they are a part of something BIGGER than themselves.
When we curate our feeds to include uplifting content, joining supportive communities, and engaging in meaningful conversations, we can transform social media into a tool for positive change.
How do we lean into the good? Here are 5 ways we support a healthy online environment:
🧠 Share & engage with posts that promote gratitude, kindness, and positivity. Cultivating a positive environment can uplift your mood and that of those around you.
🧠 Monitor your time. IG has a feature that supports you in creating healthy boundaries around social, minimizing notifications, and setting time limits for active time on the platform. Send us a message if you need support with this!
🧠 Seek support! Connect with mental health advocates like @therealjasmineelgamal and support circles. They can be your sanctuary.
🧠 Unfollow accounts that trigger negative feelings. If it's not serving you, it's okay to disconnect from it!
🧠 Unplug & recharge. Take time each day to disconnect from social and engage in activities that nourish your mind and soul. (Bonus points if you can avoid reaching for the phone within the first hour of each day!)
A balanced relationship with social is key. We're committed to leveraging our platform to create meaningful content that promotes mental health awareness and empowers our community to thrive.
You might even need a break from us sometimes, and that's okay.
How else do you cultivate a healthy environment for yourself on social? How do you support others in doing so? 🧠🫶
